Terms

Terms of service

The terms for using the Kabook app.

Effective October 6, 2026. These replace the previous version.

Using the app

Kabook is made by Gregory Schier. Downloading or using it means these terms apply to you, so please read them first. The app, its trademarks, and the copyright, database rights and other intellectual property in it belong to Gregory Schier. You may not copy or change the app, any part of it or its trademarks, try to extract its source code, translate it into other languages or make your own versions of it.

Changes and charges

Kabook may change at any time and for any reason, and that includes which of its features cost money. You will never be charged without being told very clearly what you are paying for.

Paid features and subscriptions

Some features may cost money, as a one-time purchase or a subscription.

  • Buying: purchases are made through the App Store or Google Play, charged to your account there when you confirm them, and follow the store’s terms as well as these.
  • Prices: the price, and for a subscription how often it renews, is shown in the app before you buy.
  • Renewing: a subscription renews automatically at the end of each period, and is charged again, unless it is cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends.
  • Cancelling: manage or cancel a subscription in your App Store or Google Play account settings. Cancelling stops the next renewal; what you paid for stays until the period ends. Deleting the app or your Kabook account does not cancel a subscription.
  • Free trials: a free trial, if one is offered, becomes a paid subscription when it ends, unless it is cancelled at least 24 hours before then.
  • Refunds: Apple and Google handle them, under their own policies.

Your content

What you put in Kabook, such as your notes, lists and cover photos, stays yours. You let Kabook store, copy and show it only to run the app for you, such as keeping it the same on your devices. Only use photos you have the right to use.

Your data and your device

Kabook stores and processes the personal information you give it in order to work; the privacy policy says what, and where. Keeping your device, your account’s password and access to the app secure is up to you.

Jailbreaking or rooting your device (removing the limits its official operating system sets) is not recommended. It can leave the device open to malware, viruses or malicious programs, weaken its security, and stop Kabook from working properly or at all.

Kabook relies on the third parties the privacy policy lists: Railway, which hosts its servers, storage and this website; Cloudflare, for this website’s domain; Apple, for Sign in with Apple and App Store purchases; Google, for Google Play purchases and, for books and accounts from the old version of Kabook, Firebase and Google Books; Open Library, for book covers and book data; and any analytics, crash-reporting or subscription provider it uses. Where you use one of their services yourself, such as the App Store, Google Play or Sign in with Apple, its own terms apply too.

Connection and data charges

Your library works without a connection. Searching for books, loading covers and keeping your devices in step need the internet, over Wi-Fi or your mobile network. Without either, those parts of the app will not work, and that is not something Kabook can take responsibility for.

Away from Wi-Fi, your agreement with your mobile network still applies, so you may be charged for the data the app uses, roaming included if you use it outside your home country or region without turning data roaming off, and for any other third-party charges. Those charges are yours. If you do not pay the bill for the device, it is assumed the person who does has said you may use the app.

Likewise, Kabook cannot take responsibility for how you use the app: if your device runs out of battery and you cannot use it, for example.

Book information

Book information comes from third parties, chiefly Open Library. It is kept as current and correct as it can be, but no liability is accepted for any loss, direct or indirect, from relying wholly on it.

Updates and ending

Kabook is available for iPhone, iPad and Android. It will be updated from time to time, and what it needs from their systems, or any others it comes to, may change; to keep using it you will need to download the updates, and you agree to accept them when they are offered. There is no promise that the app will always be updated to suit you or to work with the version of iOS, iPadOS or Android on your device.

Kabook may also stop being provided, and your use of it may be ended at any time without notice. Unless you are told otherwise, when that happens (a) the rights and licenses these terms give you end, and (b) you must stop using the app and, if needed, delete it from your device.

Changes to these terms

These terms may change. A new version is posted on this page, with its date at the top.
